LEGO Hello Kitty is a new range of LEGO sets based on Sanrio’s Hello Kitty and Friends characters, confirmed on October 6, 2026, as part of a multi-year partnership between the LEGO Group and Sanrio.

The first LEGO Sanrio products are due in 2027. Set names, prices and launch dates haven’t been revealed yet.

Hello Kitty turned 52 this year. In all that time, she’s never once been made out of LEGO bricks.

And I’d bet the people refreshing LEGO.com hardest this week aren’t kids.

Think about who grew up with Hello Kitty. A kid with a Hello Kitty pencil case in 1995 is now about 39, probably has a job, and quite possibly picked up a LEGO habit somewhere around 2020. That’s my hot take on this deal: it’s aimed at parents’ wallets as much as their kids’ wish lists. Possibly more.

Here’s what’s actually confirmed, what’s rumour, and what to buy in the meantime if your kid is already asking.

LEGO Hello Kitty: the short version

LEGO and Sanrio made it official on October 6, 2026. It’s a multi-year deal between the LEGO Group in Billund, Denmark and Sanrio in Tokyo, and the first sets land sometime in 2027. Nobody has a date beyond that yet.

Hello Kitty is the only character LEGO has named so far, but the teaser also shows Kuromi, My Melody, Pompompurin and Cinnamoroll. Set names, prices and age ratings are still under wraps. LEGO says updates will go up at LEGO.com/Sanrio, so bookmark that page.

What did LEGO and Sanrio announce?

The LEGO Group and Sanrio revealed a partnership that brings Hello Kitty and Friends into LEGO brick form for the first time, with a wide range of LEGO Sanrio products starting in 2027.

The scale of Hello Kitty is hard to overstate. Since her 1974 debut, she’s appeared on roughly 50,000 types of merchandise sold every year across more than 130 countries and regions. Sanrio’s executive on the deal tied it to the company’s long-running motto, “One World, Connecting Smiles,” while LEGO’s product lead described Hello Kitty as a global lifestyle phenomenon that spans generations.

Corporate quotes aside, the useful part for parents is this: it’s a multi-year deal, so this isn’t one gift-with-purchase set that disappears in a month. Expect a full theme.

Which Sanrio characters will be in LEGO sets?

Only Hello Kitty is named outright. LEGO says the sets will feature Hello Kitty alongside fan-favourite characters, without listing them.

The teaser animation in LEGO’s media kit gives us better clues. Hello Kitty, Kuromi and My Melody float down on balloons toward a yellow LEGO shopping bag, followed by Pompompurin on a swing and Cinnamoroll close behind. Gudetama, the famously lazy egg, didn’t show up. Which feels on brand.

Here’s a fun one for the Brits reading, myself included. In Sanrio’s original 1974 backstory, Hello Kitty is a British cat living in a London suburb. She’s basically from my end of the world.

When can you buy LEGO Hello Kitty in Canada?

The official answer is 2027. That’s it so far.

Before the announcement, fan site Brick Fanatics passed along a report from BrickTap that LEGO Hello Kitty would debut in January 2027. Treat that as a rumour until LEGO confirms it.

LEGO hasn’t said anything Canada-specific either. Big licensed themes usually land here at the same time as the U.S., so I’d expect the same. That’s my guess, though, not a promise. Bookmark LEGO.com/Sanrio and check back.

How much will LEGO Hello Kitty sets cost?

Nobody knows yet. Licensed LEGO themes tend to cost more per piece than LEGO’s in-house lines, because LEGO pays for the characters. If you’re the parent who plans birthdays a year out, put a small number in the 2027 column now.

Who is LEGO Hello Kitty for, and who should skip it?

This will be a hit with kids who already love Sanrio, tweens and teens in their Kuromi era, and every adult who still has a Hello Kitty something in a drawer somewhere. Families who build LEGO Friends together will probably find it an easy fit too.

It’s probably not for kids who want to build vehicles, robots or anything that crashes into anything else. And if you were hoping to grab a set for this Christmas, you can’t. Nothing ships until 2027.

My daughter is ten and has strong opinions about pretty much everything. I haven’t shown her the teaser yet. I’ll report back.

What to buy now if your kid can’t wait until 2027

If you need something cute and character-driven under the tree this year, LEGO already has a few good options.

LEGO Animal Crossing is the closest match in feel. Soft colours, adorable characters, small builds that turn into play sets.

LEGO Friends covers the cosy café-and-bedroom style of play that I expect Hello Kitty sets to lean into.

My take: is this a big deal?

Yes, with an asterisk.

On paper, it’s an obvious match. Two brands that have lived on kids’ bedroom shelves for decades, finally in the same box. LEGO has been on a licensing tear lately, too: Bluey, Pokémon, and Dragon Ball all signed within the last two years.

The asterisk is that we haven’t seen a single brick. What we have is a logo, a 22-second animation and a year. A lot depends on how LEGO builds Hello Kitty herself. She’s a simple shape with no mouth, which sounds easy until you try to make it out of plastic and still have it look right.

I’m hopeful. I’m also keeping my credit card in my pocket until I see the sets.

So who are you hoping gets the first set? Hello Kitty is the obvious answer. I’m quietly rooting for Pompompurin. Tell me yours in the comments.
