Where does the wildfire information come from?
Wildfire map markers may include NASA FIRMS hotspot data. Canadian wildfire information also uses reported data from Natural Resources Canada, the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, Environment and Climate Change Canada and participating provincial agencies, including BC Wildfire Service for British Columbia locations.
Does WeatherBoard collect my data?
WeatherBoard has no ads, trackers, analytics, user accounts or purchases. It keeps no server-side location history. Approximate location or a searched place is sent only to the outside provider needed to return the feature you request. The full details appear below.
Do I have to share my location?
No. Current Location is optional and uses reduced accuracy, roughly to the nearest kilometre. WeatherBoard never requests precise location. You can search for and save places manually instead.
Is WeatherBoard free?
Yes. WeatherBoard is free and includes every feature. It contains no In-App Purchases or subscriptions.
Can I use WeatherBoard for emergency decisions?
WeatherBoard provides general informational data. Forecasts, alerts, wildfire reports and air-quality readings can change or be delayed. Follow local authorities and emergency services whenever health or safety may be at risk.

WeatherBoard is built to give you useful weather, wildfire and air-quality information while collecting as little about you as possible. This policy explains what the app processes, what stays on your device, and when an outside data provider receives a request.
In plain English: WeatherBoard has no ads, no trackers, no analytics, no user accounts and no purchases. It does not sell personal information, does not follow you between apps or websites, and keeps no server-side record of where you have been.
1. Who this covers
This policy applies to the WeatherBoard app for iPhone and iPad, and to the WeatherBoard pages on this website. The app is provided by James Smith (“WeatherBoard”, “we”, “us”, “our”), who can be reached at james@acoffeeshop.ca.
2. What WeatherBoard processes
WeatherBoard has no account system, so there is nothing to sign up for and no profile to build. The app contains no advertising SDKs, no third-party marketing trackers, and no developer-operated analytics.
Location is optional and approximate. If you turn on Current Location, the app asks iOS for reduced accuracy, roughly to the nearest kilometre, because that is all a forecast requires. WeatherBoard never requests precise location. You can decline entirely and search for places by name instead; every feature except “use my location” still works.
To answer a request, a coordinate or place name is sent to the relevant weather, mapping, air-quality or wildfire service listed in section 4. Those providers receive the request and technical details such as your IP address, and handle them under their own policies. WeatherBoard keeps no server-side copy of your location or your history, because WeatherBoard operates no server.
3. What is stored on your device
Saved places, unit preferences, cached forecast data and similar settings are stored locally on your device, and are shared with the WeatherBoard widget through a private app group so the widget can draw the same information. Deleting the app removes all of it.
If you choose to enter an optional provider key, such as a free NASA FIRMS key for satellite fire detections or your own map tile provider key, that key is stored on your device and sent only to that provider, only when you use the feature it enables. It is never used for anything else and never transmitted to us.
Location permission and device backups are controlled by iOS, in the Settings app.
4. Outside services
WeatherBoard relies on public data services. Which ones are contacted depends on the features and map layers you use.
Forecasts, place search, air quality and pollen, and historical comparisons for “This day in history”.
Open-Meteo terms and privacy. Open-Meteo states that API logs may contain IP addresses and coordinates, and that individual logs are deleted after 90 days.

If you enter your own map tile address, requests go to whatever service you configured. We have no relationship with it and no control over what it does with those requests.
Set by that provider.
We do not control these services. If WeatherBoard adds another provider, this policy will be updated to name it.
5. No purchases and no payments
WeatherBoard is free and contains no In-App Purchases, no subscriptions and no donation mechanism. It never asks for or handles payment details, and there is no payment processor involved at any point.
6. Keeping, seeing and deleting your information
Because there is no account and no server, we hold no personal record to look up, export or delete. Anything WeatherBoard stores lives on your device until you clear it or remove the app. Information handled by the outside services in section 4 is subject to each provider’s own retention practices.
WeatherBoard is a general-audience weather app and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. It has no profiles, no social posting and no way for users to contact one another.
8. Weather, wildfire and air-quality information
Forecasts, alerts, wildfire markers, fire-risk layers and air-quality readings are informational, and may be incomplete, delayed or inaccurate. Conditions change quickly. WeatherBoard does not replace local authorities, emergency services, evacuation orders or professional health and safety advice. When health, travel or personal safety may be affected, verify conditions with the responsible agency and follow all official instructions.
9. Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated when WeatherBoard’s features, providers or legal obligations change, and the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Significant changes will be noted in the app or on the App Store listing.
