Aside from my daily multivitamins, I’m pretty bad at taking any supplements. To be honest, I only take them because they’re basically candy.
I know we’re constantly reminded that a balanced diet is the key to a healthy life, but living that mantra isn’t always the easiest thing.
As a recent expo for the BMO Half Marathon, which I ran last week, I met the lovely people at Sea-Licious and was reminded that I haven’t been taking my Omega-3 tablets. I’m pretty sure they’re at the bottom of the drawer on my side of the bathroom sink.

They explained that Omega-3s are actually super-important for a long list of reasons. Here are just a few, courtesy of Men’s Fitness Magazine:
- Promotes heart-health
A study from the Harvard School of Public Health worked out that eating 2g of omega-3 fatty acids reduced the chances of dying from heart disease by over one-third.
- Protects against cancer
Research has shown that fish oil can help prevent three of the most common forms of cancer: breast, colon and prostate.
- Improves mental health
Those clever people at the University of Sheffield, UK found that fish oil supplements can alleviate the symptoms of depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.

Luckily, Sea-Licious Omega-3 actually tastes good. What? Yes, I was surprised too. I’m challenging myself to take the Tropical Colada flavour every morning as the first thing I do when I sit down at my desk. I know if it’s at home, I’ll forget, so it’s right next to my laptop.

Did you know that oils can also aid weight loss? Helen Sanders, Chief Editor of HealthAmbition.com says:
“Although studies are still ongoing, research has found that diets high in omega-3 fatty acids especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) result in lower overall body fat stores.
Fish oil is also linked to reduction in abdominal obesity. This type of belly fat is a huge problem and is linked to health issues such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.”

Thanks to the Sea-Licious family for supporting this post and donating the prize to give away. As always, the opinions are my own and I only support products that I genuinely think are awesome. Seriously, I’ve turned down some real dodgy ones! 😉
