Great news for single-serve coffee fans. By the end of 2018, all of the Keurig® K-Cup® pods sold in Canada will be recyclable.

I love my Keurig coffee maker, partly because it’s quick and convenient, but mainly because of the consistent taste that comes with having a pre-packaged serving ready for me to pop in, close the lid, press the button, and then drink.

When looking at its entire life cycle, the pods also use less coffee and water than traditional drip coffee. In your Keurig machine, the hot water is squeezed through the coffee to get the most flavour from the coffee grounds.

Great coffee isn’t enough though. Keurig has been working toward some lofty goals to be more environmentally conscious, by partnering with recyclers, including Recycle BC, across North America for the past three years.

Their mission was to ensure that the pods can easily travel from recycling bins at homes to recovery facilities to a useful second life.

The coffee pods are made of plastic #5, which is widely accepted in municipal recycling programs in Canada.

You can recycle your K-Cup® pods in three simple steps: let it cool and peel off the foil lid, compost the coffee grounds, and recycle the #5 plastic cup, alongside other recyclable containers in your recycling bin at home.

Recycling is important to me because we are using way too many products that are polluting our earth and the environment, which will have a huge negative impact on our children. We must recycle to do all we can to keep our planet healthy.

Recycling is so important to me, but not as important as trying to reduce. We only have one planet and a finite amount of space a resources, it would be a shame to fill it all up with garbage.

Recycling is important to me because I want my little girls to have the best chance at life they can. With the extreme buildup of trash now if no one recycled I couldn’t even imagine what this world would look like when my children were my age.

For the longest time, I wouldn’t use my Keurig because our community wouldn’t accept the pods and I couldn’t bear the waste. Its good to know that this has become a non issue…I can use my old keurig, guilt free

I wouldn’t buy a Keurig if you couldn’t recycle the pods. Imagine how many cups of coffee each person goes through in a year and the incredible amount of space that these would take up in a landfill. I;m so glad Keurig has a solution. Now I can happily use a Keurig,

I have been teaching my kids to recycle what they can, landfills are filled with garbage that isn’t going away anytime soon. Sad thing about recycling small plastic items smaller than your palm is recycling plants can’t sort them when they are that small.
