Great news for single-serve coffee fans. By the end of 2018, all of the Keurig® K-Cup® pods sold in Canada will be recyclable.

I love my Keurig coffee maker, partly because it’s quick and convenient, but mainly because of the consistent taste that comes with having a pre-packaged serving ready for me to pop in, close the lid, press the button, and then drink.

When looking at its entire life cycle, the pods also use less coffee and water than traditional drip coffee. In your Keurig machine, the hot water is squeezed through the coffee to get the most flavour from the coffee grounds.

Great coffee isn’t enough though. Keurig has been working toward some lofty goals to be more environmentally conscious, by partnering with recyclers, including Recycle BC, across North America for the past three years.

Their mission was to ensure that the pods can easily travel from recycling bins at homes to recovery facilities to a useful second life.

The coffee pods are made of plastic #5, which is widely accepted in municipal recycling programs in Canada.

You can recycle your K-Cup® pods in three simple steps: let it cool and peel off the foil lid, compost the coffee grounds, and recycle the #5 plastic cup, alongside other recyclable containers in your recycling bin at home.

So important! I used to use a nespresso at my old work and loved you could recycle the pods – so this is amazing!!

I’m a firm believer in being mindful of the environment to keep it natural and beautiful. Literless lunches, recycling rain water to water our grass and garden, walking wherever possible are all small things myself and my family does. Thanks for the chance to win! I sure do love my coffee!

I don’t want to contribute anything more to the landfill than necessary. We go through a lot of kcups daily, so would much prefer to recycle them.

I think we need to keep our “foot print” as small as possible. We have already caused enough harm that we can’t undo, but with a little effort we can sure as make sure we don’t do any more!

When I see a landfill I always wonder how many things could have been recycled rather than thrown away as these sites keep growing. I try to buy things with less packaging and waste as little as possible. Success to me is recycling, reusing, reducing and composting so my grandchildren will not grow up in such a toxic and garbage filled environment. Their future without pollution is important to me.

Recycling is the only way that we are going to save this only planet we have to live on. I’ve been recycling for as long as I can remember and love the fact that the city I live in accepts so many items for recycling and is a leader in it and an example for all cities and countries to follow. Even before Keurig made their k-cups recyclable, I’ve been doing so and using the grounds in my garden.,
